5 Hidradenitis Suppurativa Treatment Home Remedies That Really Work!

When it comes to treating HS symptoms, many people are put off by some of the drastic and expensive treatments being touted by pharmaceutical companies and doctors, which can include such things as cryotherapy and a heavy regimen of drugs and antibiotics. Many patients instead are interested in hidradenitis suppurativa treatments like home remedies, as something they can do themselves and will cost less than invasive surgical procedures. Let’s take a look at five hidradenitis suppurativa natural treatments that you can do yourself at home.

1. Target Your Diet!

This may seem simplistic, but the rate and manifestation of acne inversa is directly correlated to how the body manages its own excretion of sweat and bodily fluids. Because hidradenitis suppurativa is a skin condition related to the blockage of sweat glands, carefully managing your own diet in order to maximize non-fatty foods can be a huge step in the right direction.

The hidradenitis suppurativa diet aims to cut down on saturated fats and simple carbohydrates, and instead increase the intake of vegetables and omega-3 fatty acids, commonly found in such foods as cold water fish.

  1. Fats, Oils, and Sweets – we place this at the top of our pyramid, and suggest that patients use these products sparingly, if at all. Especially in particularly severe cases, these should be avoided at all costs.
  2. Milk, Yogurt, and Cheese – you may want to avoid dairy products for a few weeks and see how your symptoms adjust without it. Generally no more than two to three servings a day should be consumed, due to the high fat content, and the tendency for dairy products to excite the mucus glands in the body. Use dairy products sparingly.
  3. Meat, Poultry, and Fish – an easy hidradenitis suppurativa home remedy is to cut back on how much protein, in the form of meat, you are ingesting. However, as mentioned, fish is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids. Only two-three servings should be observed daily.
  4. Vegetables and Fruit – this is arguably the most important group, and involves all sorts of vegetables, including leafy greens and seasonal varieties, as well as fruit. Six to nine servings are recommended daily.
  5. Complex Carbohydrates – the largest group of all, these can include things like rice or quinoa-based cereals, pastas, and breads. Generally six to eight servings are recommended.

If you’ve been suffering with your HS symptoms for a while, I highly recommend The Total Elimination Diet protocol to pinpoint your trigger foods that are causing your body the most symptoms. This 8-12 week protocol will help you cleanse your body and find the foods you should be avoiding.

2. Seek Anti-Inflammatories

What sets off acne inversa can vary from person to person, but a common symptom is swelling of the afflicted area. Another simple hidradenitis suppurativa treatment in the form of home remedies is managing this inflammation with simple anti-inflammatory medications like Ibuprofen. Additionally, application of cold ice-packs and compresses can help reduce the irritation.

3. Limit Bad Habits

We all enjoy a nice glass of wine at the end of the day, but bad habits like overdrinking can worsen the condition. As well, if you are a chronic smoker, this can be very detrimental, and may even encourage the condition to spread. In fact, almost 80% of hidradenitis suppurativa cases are known smokers, and it is a considered a causative element both in its initial manifestation and subsequent relapses. Most hidradenitis suppurativa treatments as home remedies, as we’ve seen, exist as life-style changes.

That said, if you must drink, then limit your intake to the most minimal amounts, and avoid alcohols which are more likely to exacerbate the condition – for example, beer is often high in calories. Wine, especially red wine, on the other hand, can act as a minor anti-oxidant and may even be helpful in treating the condition.

4. Lose Weight

Many cases of acne inversa can also be correlated to a high body mass index, and a number of patients tend to be overweight. This can be for a number of reasons, but usually exists in parallel with several – for example, someone who smokes consistently and does not get enough exercise. Learning how to treat your weight, and making every effort to lose weight and regain a nominal BMI is essential, and is one of many a tested hidradenitis suppurativa treatment for home remedies.

5. Reduce Stress

This one usually comes as a surprise but it is often related to a number of other factors we’ve seen, including a bad hidradenitis suppurativa diet, being overweight, and having bad habits like smoking. Stress is a natural part of life, but often in our urban settings and at work and home it can have a negative attrition effect on the body. As a result, acne inversa can often be a ‘stress-indicator’, and be offset by abnormally high levels of stress – learning how to manage stress so that it doesn’t become a negative aspect is a key component in bringing down your own case of hidradenitis suppurativa. This can be as simple as taking up a hobby, getting exercise (as we’ve seen), or taking a vacation – anything that lowers the body’s level of stress and encourages the regeneration of the immune system.

And Then I Found The Missing Piece of The Puzzle

Short story, I have spent almost 3 months researching & amassed 60+ hours in the library and with various doctors, nutritionist & GPs. There’s one treatment method by Therese Wilson, I kept coming across again and again called the “Fast Hidradenitis Suppurativa Cure.” I have to admit after so much research, I was a bit skeptical at the sounds of the title, but I read through it all anyway and I’m so glad I did.

It literally gave me the remaining pieces that I needed to move forward with a protocol and help Jane after all these months (and her depression was getting progressive worse prior to this). Therese and her team of professional nutritionists actually talked via email/phone with Jane and I through the best protocol that would work best for her. I will talk more about the protocol and everything we did, but that is for another post.
